Aug 13, 2019 · I run the plain Hobart 7018, the Hobart 7018 XLM as well as Lincoln Excalibur. The Hobart is not as good as the Lincoln, but for me it is close, especially the XLM stuff. If you dial in the heat correctly the Hobart rods will give you a slag peel. If not, the slag is thicker than excalibur, but I have never needed a needle scaler. I have run the ESAB ATOM ARC 7018 1/8" rods. Personally, I like them better than the Lincoln Excalibur. They seem to burn a little crisper and wet in very nicely.
